LAA Policy & Strategy Officer

The Livestock Auctioneers’ Association (LAA) is looking to recruit a self-motivated and dynamic Policy & Strategy Officer, to drive exciting new developments and define long-term strategic direction, as the association supports the future of a vibrant and successful livestock production sector, across England and Wales.

The LAA has a vital role in providing auctioneers, livestock market businesses and the livestock production sector with a strong voice in government, as well as within wider industry groups and organisations.

As well as supporting a marketing platform that saw 10.9 million animals sold through the live auction ring in 2023, with a turnover of more than £2.2 billion across England and Wales, the LAA also represents the industry at the highest level, working collaboratively with other industry organisations, associations and trade bodies.

Having taken leadership in bringing together industry, including the formation and chairing of the Livestock Chain Advisory Group, the LAA is now looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and influential individual to not only maintain that strong presence across government and industry, but also to define, develop and lead on future strategies and policy direction.

The dynamic individual will have a deep passion for the future of the whole industry and those who work within it. An in-depth knowledge of the workings of livestock auction marts and the livestock sector in general would be advantageous. The role provides an exciting opportunity to help drive through and support new initiatives, activities and programmes to help safeguard the future of the industry.

This pivotal role will involve influencing key industry policies, and will involve negotiating, lobbying and campaigning on behalf of the sector, while taking a lead on key initiatives based around securing a safe, competitive and commercially viable livestock production industry. The role will involve working closely with government agencies and processors.

This senior, high-profile role will involve travel across England and Wales to attend and contribute to meetings and events throughout the year on behalf of the LAA, to help drive new policies and deliver strategic opportunities.

This vacancy brings exciting opportunities for progression as the role develops and would be suitable for either a full or part time position, dependent on applications received. The remuneration package will depend on experience, skillsets and the role that develops.

Candidates interested are asked to prepare a CV and covering letter detailing past experience and send it to [email protected]
